The 2017 Angel Ball raised $4 million net to complete the transformation of St. Michael's Emergency Department, thanks to our generous sponsors.
As one of only two designated trauma centres in Toronto, and the only one in the downtown core, our Emergency is a busy place. Whether it’s by means of an ambulance pulling up to the doors or a helicopter landing on the roof, patients come to us from all over the province for our specialized care and services.
Our Emergency was last updated in 2000, more than 15 years ago, and since then much has changed. Last year, we experienced more than 75,000 patient visits in a space designed for 45,000. Volumes and demand for our specialized services will only continue to grow.
Our twice-as-large renovated Slaight Family Emergency Department will be designed according to evidence-based layout design principles and will include additional diagnostic imaging equipment, such as a CT scanner, to ensure all patients receive top-quality health care as soon as possible all in one place.
This updated facility will allow us to better serve our growing patient population, enabling best possible outcomes for each and every patient who walks through our doors.
