Support a Best-in-Class Emergency Department in Downtown Toronto

Emergency arrival

Over the next five years, St. Michael’s Hospital will build a new Patient Care Tower and transform our Emergency Department to become the premier critical care hospital in Canada.

The Slaight Family Foundation has given us a $10 million donation towards the Slaight Family Emergency Department. Your support of the Angel Ball helps us complete this facility so our patients and visitors can benefit from these new Emergency Department features:

  • Separate areas to stream ‘urgent’ and ‘non-urgent’ patients
  • 54 private rooms for increased comfort, privacy and improved infection control
  • 12 private exam rooms for ongoing care and observation, while preserving privacy
  • Three family consultation rooms
  • Expanded capacity to treat patients experiencing trauma – up from two to three suites
  • An on-site imaging suite within the Emergency Department to save time, reduce patient distress and improve the speed of diagnosis and treatment (x-ray, ultrasound, CT scan)
  • A dedicated mental health unit including eight private rooms with windows
